Construction Accident Near Landmark Building

A construction mishap occurred on Thursday afternoon at the high-rise Landmark Building #3 site in central Baku, resulting in falling debris in the area to the east of the historic Landmark Building on Azadlig Prospect. The affected area includes Fikret Amirov Street, between Nizami and Khagani Streets, and Nizami and Khagani Streets between Azadlig Prospect and Fikret Amirov Streets. While the immediate area was temporarily cordoned off by police, vehicle and pedestrian traffic may again be flowing near the accident site. American citizens are encouraged to exercise caution in this area while authorities investigate. The U.S. Embassy Annex in the Landmark Building will be closed on Friday, March 16 as a precaution.

As a reminder, please note that the U.S. Embassy Consular Section will be closed for walk-in services tomorrow afternoon. The Consular Section will be open for normal walk-in hours on Monday, March 19, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The U.S. Embassy will also be closed for Novruz Holidays from Tuesday to Thursday, March 20-22, 2007. Please plan accordingly.
