Visa Requirements for Members of the Media

Journalists who plan to travel to the United States on assignment must contact the Consular section about applying for an 'I' visa for their trip. Reporters traveling to the United States on 'B1/B2' tourist visas to work will no longer be permitted to enter the United States.

Representatives of the foreign media traveling to the United States on assignment may be eligible for classification under the "I" visa category. Please note that only those directly involved in the newsgathering process are eligible. People involved in associated activities such as proofreaders, librarians, set designers, etc. are not eligible.
