NONIMMIGRANT VISA CHECKLIST

BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION,

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO BE ABLE TO OBTAIN YOUR VISA.

Effective November 1, 2006 all applicants are required to use the Electronic Visa Application Form (DS-156) in English. Once you have completed the application print it out and bring it with you to your appointment. Handwritten or typed applications will no longer be accepted.

Visa applications are accepted by prior appointment only at an assigned time 4 days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, between 9:00am and 12:00 noon.

Announcement: Effective November 5, 2007 the consular section will no longer accept appointment requests via the telephone.  Applicants must make appointments via our online appointment system.  Please note that applicants are still required to fill out the application form online and will have to provide the barcode number to schedule an appointment. 

The visa application processing fee is $131 payable in U.S. dollars or the equivalent in new Azerbaijani manats. This fee is non-refundable.

Applicants must submit the relevant application forms, passport and supporting documents, and pay the non-refundable $131 visa application processing fee at the time of their appointment. The applicants will be interviewed the same day.

Immediately upon the conclusion of the interview, each applicant will be informed whether a visa will be approved and, if so, when it will be ready for collection. Visas may be processed within 24 hours, and wherever possible will be issued on the same day.

Basic Requirements

All nonimmigrant visa applicants must submit:

VALID PASSPORT: a passport valid for travel to the United States and valid for at least six months beyond the date the applicant will exit the United States.

COMPLETED AND PRINTED DS-156 APPLICATION FORM: a completed and printed Electronic Visa Application Form (DS-156) in English. ONE PHOTOGRAPH: a photograph, 5cm X 5cm on a white background, taken within the last six months.

All male applicants between the ages of 16 and 45 require a Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form (DS-157).

In order to qualify for a nonimmigrant visa under U.S. immigration law, applicants need to show evidence of their strong economic, social, professional and family ties in Azerbaijan. Persons dependent on their spouses, parents or children should show the ties to Azerbaijan of the person(s) supporting them. Applicants will be required to explain and possibly demonstrate how they will finance their visit to the U.S. Applicants for visitor visas should bring any documents they feel show the professional, social, economic and family circumstances which will require them to return to Azerbaijan after a short visit to the United States.

There is no additional specific list of required documents, as every person's situation is different, but applicants should attempt to document their situation as completely as possible in order to resolve their cases quickly. Applicants may, for example, present marriage certificates, children's birth certificates, invitation letters from US-based companies or individuals, letters from local employers, other evidence of economic status, or any other suitable evidence of their ties in Azerbaijan. A notarized invitation letter or form is not required.

Applicants may not be assisted at the interview by friends or relatives who are not applying. Our staff speaks Azerbaijani, Russian, and English.

Foreign passport-holders may need to provide evidence of their residency status in Azerbaijan.
