Topic: Elections in America
The U.S. Embassy in Baku is recruiting graduate and undergraduate students with advanced English level from Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions studying International Relations, History, American Studies or other related fields to attend “American Studies Institute of the US Embassy” online lecture series.
Description of the project: the U.S. Embassy in Baku will conduct a 9-part virtual lecture series on “Elections in America”. The US lecturers – experts from various US Universities will participate via online video conferencing or video web chat, lecturing to Azerbaijani university students. Lectures will be held during February 23 – April 19, 2012 at the American Center located in Azerbaijan University of Languages on a weekly basis.
The U.S. professors will speak on the following topics:
1. The Evolution of American Elections: A Historical Perspective
2. The Evolution of the Two-Party System: Republicans and Democrats
3. The Election Process, Part I: Primaries, Caucuses, Conventions
4. The Election Process, Part II: The Presidential Election and Electoral College
5. The Media and Elections
6. The Art of Campaigning
7. President Obama's and the Republican Candidate(s)' Platforms
8. The Issues: U.S. Domestic Policy in the Next Four Years
9. The Issues: U.S. Foreign Policy in the Next Four Years
How to apply:
Interested students are required to send their CVs along with a half-page statement of purpose to bakueducation@state.gov with the subject line “Online Lectures” by 5pm, February 17th. Those who participated in the fall lecture series are also eligible to apply.
